Abstract

The Twenty-first-century society lives trapped in immediacy and excessive activity, a condition that gives rise to exhaustion, depression, and a loss of meaning. Thinkers such as Byung-Chul Han explain that contemporary human beings exploit themselves in the constant pursuit of greater productivity, thereby forgetting their contemplative nature.

This accelerated rhythm disconnects individuals from what surrounds them, confines them within themselves, and leads to both physical and spiritual illnesses, reducing them to beings who merely perform rather than reflect or pause to contemplate life in depth.

The response proposed to this problem is the recovery of contemplation as a way of life. Thinkers such as Josef Pieper and Hartmut Rosa maintain that silence, leisure, and the capacity to pause allow human beings to rediscover themselves and truth.
Contemplation is not mere passivity or stillness; rather, it is an openness to what is essential: to listen, to observe, and to discover the profound meaning of existence. Only in this way can the emptiness of immediacy be overcome and a fuller, more conscious life be attained.
