The Major Seminary of Medellín: Lighthouse and witness of the renewal proposed by Mons. Tulio Botero Salazar

Abstract

The article describes the renewal of the Church in Medellín during the 1960s, promoted by Monsignor Tulio Botero Salazar, especially in relation to the Major Seminary of Medellín. This building became a symbol of that renewal, in response to the social and ecclesial changes of the time, influenced by the Second Vatican Council and the need for a more modern priestly formation.

Monsignor Botero promoted a style of training based on freedom and responsibility, building a seminary with individual cells and open spaces, in addition to having highly qualified teachers. This transformative approach included the creation of an Institute of Higher Studies of Theology at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, which would become a recognized faculty. The Seminary stood out for being a beacon of ecclesial and academic renewal in the region.
