Hope and Christian Existentialism: A Path for the Modern Man

Within the framework of the Jubilee of Hope, this text explores this concept in Christian existentialism, analyzing the contributions of authors such as Søren Kierkegaard, Gabriel Marcel and Miguel de Unamuno. Oriented by philosophical reflection and from a pastoral vision, this monograph shows how hope constitutes an existential answer to suffering, anguish and the reality of death. In Kierkegaard, hope emerges as a transcendent possibility that responds to despair; for Marcel, it is an active disposition of communion with the other and openness to the Mystery; and in Unamuno, it is presented as a vital desire for eternity accompanied by the struggle between faith and doubt. Finally, a dialogue of these perspectives is established with contemporary thought, such as that of Byung-Chul Han, and the Magisterium of the Church today, particularly that of Pope Francis.
